IIT Dharwad offers M.Sc. in Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Medicine, and Physics. The M.Sc. programs are designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of Major subject and its applications in the real world. The curriculum includes a research project component which will provide a student with research experiences. Hence, by the end of this program, students can translate their expertise into a professional career in either academia or industry. On one hand, the program prepares the student to join for a Ph.D. degree. On the other hand, the curriculum design prepares the student for high-end industry jobs and leadership roles.
Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)
Admission and eligibility: The admission to these programs are through Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM). The eligibility criteria are listed below.

Chemistry | After completion of the MSc Chemistry program, students will get access to the various entry- and higher-level positions/ roles (such as research scientist, quality control, patenting, technical officer, PSUs, scientific editing, teaching and research etc.), in chemical industries, pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, academia, government agencies and various public sector undertakings (such as ONGC, NTPC, IOCL, GAIL, HPCL etc.). Interested and motivated students can join Ph. D. programs in reputed institutes in India or abroad with a decent monthly stipend which opens avenues for further honing of their research aptitude and skills for a greater contribution to the scientific world and to address some burning societal and environmental issues of the country. A Ph.D. will also prepare them for leading roles in industries, academia, consulting, medicine, law, scientific writing, and scientific policy formulation. |
Mathematics | After completion of the M.Sc. Mathematics program, students will get access to the various entry and higher-level positions/roles in academia and industries alike. The student, after successful completion of her/his degree may expect to secure PhD positions in leading University/Institutes in India and abroad. That will be a natural career path for going into academia to eventually become a researcher or a teacher. Apart from that, a student may also consider going into the industry as a statistician or a statistical analyst, an applied mathematician, data scientist, financial analyst, quantitative economist, etc. Interested students can also target government jobs in general or relevant sectors. |
Molecular Medicines | Pursuing an M.Sc. in Molecular Medicine opens doors to a wide range of exciting career opportunities in the healthcare and biomedical academia and industries. Future scope includes roles in research and development, clinical trials management, pharmaceutical industries, and academia. Additionally, graduates can contribute to policy making, public health, and science communication.
